The SDC/League of Resident Theatres Agreement covers not-for-profit professional regional theatres throughout the country. The LORT Agreement is in effect April 15, 2017 – April 14, 2022 and extended through April 14, 2024.
Each Collectively Bargained Agreement (CBA) is bargained by a committee of Members with experience in the appropriate arena (e.g., Members with experience in LORT negotiate the LORT contract). They negotiate with a group of producers who represent management in that arena. The agreements generally last three to five years, and include terms of compensation, property rights protections, working conditions, and the obligations of both Artist and Employer. |

PLEASE NOTE: COVID-19 Safety Protocol Review Process for LORT Theatres
Option #1 for All Companies (NEW 9/1/22): COVID-19 Safety Plan Rider
- SDC has updated its COVID-19 Safety Protocol Guidelines in response to the current stage of the pandemic, CDC guidance, and recommendations from the SDC Expert Medical Advisory Board.
- The SDC COVID-19 Safety Plan Rider can be used by all companies regardless of vaccination status. Please review the updates which are incorporated in the Rider.
- Employers and Members must sign the SDC COVID-19 Safety Plan Rider as part of the SDC contract, which requires the employer to affirm they have implemented the required layers of protection against the spread of COVID-19 in their workplace and are aware of SDC’s additional recommendations. This rider must be returned to SDC along with the appropriate contract. For the SDC COVID-19 Safety Plan Rider click here.
Option #2 for All Companies: COVID-19 Safety Worksheet
- Employers will continue to follow the previous safety protocol review process.
- Employers must submit and SDC must clear a comprehensive Covid-19 Workplace Safety Plan before SDC Members may provide any in-person services under an SDC contract (including auditions, pre-production meetings, rehearsal, etc.).
- The SDC COVID-19 Safety Worksheet must be submitted to Contracts@SDCweb.org for each production prior to contracting but in no event later than four (4) weeks prior to rehearsals. A theatre/producer’s comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Plan must accompany the first Worksheet submitted for clearance. For subsequent productions, only the Worksheet is required.
- If cleared, SDC will authorize an SDC contract for the activity and permit its Members to provide in-person services under that contract for that specific production/project only.

An Independent Producer’s Agreement (IPA) is an agreement made between an employer and the SDC, which may reference a collectively bargained agreement. Though a theatre is not a signatory to any particular collective bargaining agreement, the theatre agrees to be bound to and comply with all of the terms of the Agreement.
