The Shakespeare Agreement is for theatres and festivals primarily involved in the production of Shakespeare’s works. This contract sets minimum compensation and health contribution amounts based on a theatre’s category, which is determined per production. The pension contribution is 9% for all categories.
The determination of a production’s category takes into account an organization’s operating budget, the number of productions per season, the top ticket price, the number of days the director/choreographer is in residence and the number of performances of a production. Also included are provisions for rehearsing in rotating repertory, fight choreography and short term choreography. Like the Tier contract, the Shakespeare Agreement is only required when an SDC Member is hired.
Once the contract has been completed, the employer should print four (4) copies and sign them first. Then, after the SDC member signs, two (2) copies should be mailed to SDC. The appropriate health and pension contributions should arrive in separate checks – one made out to “SDC-League Health Fund” and the other to “SDC-League Pension Fund” and mailed to the following address:
Zenith American Solutions, 140 Sylvan Avenue, Suite 303, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632
If your theatre is interested in using the Shakespeare Agreement please contact SDC.
