STAGE DIRECTORS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS FOUNDATION
ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR ZELDA FICHANDLER AWARD

$5000 Unrestricted Grant Will be Awarded
to Theatre Director or Choreographer in the Central Region

Deadline for Nominations EXTENDED Through August 26
Freelance Artists and Artists on Staff are Eligible

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), extends the call for nominations for The Zelda Fichandler Award to recognize an outstanding director or choreographer making an exceptional contribution to the national arts landscape through theatre work in the Central U.S. (comprised of Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin).  Both freelance artists and artists on staff of an organization are eligible.

With this award, SDCF recognizes the profound impact and honors the legacy of the founders of regional theatre and celebrates the creativity and artistry of theatre around the country. Named after Zelda Fichandler, a founder of the American regional theatre movement, the award celebrates prominent achievement in the field, singular creativity and artistry, and a deep investment in a particular place outside New York. This award is not for lifetime achievement; the intent is to honor someone for both accomplishment to date and promise for the future.

The recipient will be awarded a $5000 unrestricted grant.

The Fichandler Award is given regionally on a rotating basis. In 2009, the award focused on artists in the Western region and was awarded to Jonathan Moscone, Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theatre. In 2011 and 2012, the award will honor achievement in the Eastern and Southern regions.

Nominations will be accepted from all sources through August 26 at noon EST.  Nominators need not be SDC Members. A short nomination form is available at www.SDCWeb.org (see Fichandler Award under Foundation). Nomination form may be emailed, mailed, or faxed to SDCF.  A selection committee will select The Zelda Fichandler Award Recipient from nominated artists.

The Award will be presented in Chicago at Steppenwolf Theatre Company on October 18, 2010.
