The first opportunity of the new SDCF LIVE ON SCREEN INITIATIVE
For Directors and Choreographers with 10 Years Experience:Opportunity on ONE LIFE TO LIVE shadowing Director Larry CarpenterAs cinecasts, simulcasts and webcasts of stage productions become commonplace, stage Directors and Choreographers will need to become increasingly comfortable with the fundamentals of camera work and the nuances of capturing a live event on screen. The SDCF Live on Screen Initiative will help prepare stage Directors and Choreographers for the challenges of presenting their stage work on screen. Through opportunities including hands-on experience, symposia and panel discussions, SDCF will offer a thorough exploration of this topic, assisting stage Directors and Choreographers who wish to broaden their skill set. As our first offering under the umbrella of this new Initiative, SDCF is providing an opportunity for Directors and Choreographers with at least 10 years experience to shadow SDC Executive Board Member and Emmy Award-winning Director Larry Carpenter on ABC’s “One Life to Live.”
Through this opportunity, an established stage Director or Choreographer will observe the workings of daytime television, learning the fundamentals of camera work including setting up a multi-camera shot and capturing a scene on video. The selected grantee will attend four shooting dates, one day per week, over the weeks of June 22, June 29, July 12 and July 19, and production meetings as appropriate on Thursdays at 11:30a.m. Shooting days are completely random and assigned two weeks in advance of the shoot day, so selected applicants must have flexibility in schedule.
This position will be restricted to those with at least 10 years of professional directing or choreography experience with significant stage work in a lead directing or choreographing capacity. Both SDC Members and non-Members with the requisite experience may apply. Prior experience in television or film is not necessary.
