In New York Joe Calarco’s work has been seen at Playwrights Horizons, Second Stage, Primary Stages, The Transport Group, Lincoln Center, Dream Light Theater Company, the New York Musical Theatre Conference (NYMF), and the Lucille Lortel. Regionally he has worked at The Old Globe, Signature Theatre, Philadelphia Theatre Company, The Kennedy Center, Barrington Stage Company, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Shakespeare Theater Company, The Folger Theater, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Theater J, Dallas Theatre Center, Charter Theater, 11th Hour Theater Company, The Hangar Theatre, The Weston Playhouse, The Yale Institute for Music Theater, and The O’Neill Music Theater Conference. A playwright, he is a member of the Dramatists Guild, and his published works include Walter Cronkite is Dead, In the Absence of Spring, and Shakespeare’s R&J. He has been nominated for the Drama Desk Award and is the winner of four Helen Hayes Awards, two Barrymore Awards, and the Lucille Lortel Award. He is a Drama League Directing Fellow and has served as Resident Director at Barrington Stage Company and Resident Playwright at Expanded Arts. He is currently Resident Director and Director of New Works at Signature Theatre in Arlington Virginia. BFA Ithaca College. He is Co-Artistic Director of Breaking Bread Theatre.
