Annie-B Parson

Annie-B Parson is a choreographer and the artistic director of the OBIE and Bessie Award-winning Big Dance Theater, and with her company has created over 20 large-scale works for BAM, The Old Vic/London, Sadler’s Wells/London, The Walker, The National Theatre/Paris, Japan Society, CSC, and The Kitchen. Parson has also made choreography for rock shows, marching bands, movies, museums, objects, television, augmented reality, opera, ballet, theater, symphony orchestras, string quartets, and a chorus of 1,000 amateur singers. Some of the artists she has worked with include Lorde, David Byrne, David Bowie, St. Vincent, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Esperanza Spalding, Suzan Lori Parks, Jonsi, Wendy Whelan, Anne Carson, Laurie Anderson, David Lang, Salt-N-Pepa, Jonathan Demme, and Spike Lee. Parson has two large-scale works in the repertory of the Martha Graham Dance Co. Her work with David Byrne includes Tony Award-winning American Utopia on Broadway, and the musical Here Lies Love at The Public Theater, The National Theatre, and on Broadway. Parson also did choreography for Byrne’s shows/tours with Brian Eno, St. Vincent, and with Spike Lee on the documentary movie American Utopia. Her most recent book is entitled: The Choreography of Everyday Life.
