John Rando directed the Broadway hit production of Back to the Future, US first national tour, and also on London’s West End (fourth year) which won the 2022 Olivier Award for Best Musical. In 2001 John won the Best Director Tony Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Urinetown, the Musical. His other Broadway credits include On the Town (Tony nomination for Direction), A Christmas Story (Tony nomination Best Musical), The Wedding Singer (Tony nomination Best Musical), Penn & Teller, Neil Simon’s The Dinner Party, among others. For New York City Center Encores! he directed The New Yorkers, It’s a Bird It’s a Plane it’s Superman, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Damn Yankees, Face the Music, Of Thee I Sing, Do Re Mi, and Strike Up the Band among others. His New York Philharmonic concert production of Carousel was filmed for Lincoln Center Live. Mr. Rando’s Off Broadway productions include: The Heir Apparent 9SDCF Callaway Award), All in the Timing (Obie Award), Lives of The Saints, Mere Mortals, Jerry Springer the Opera, Rosenkrantz and Guilderstern Are Dead, among many others. In China John directed three original Chinese musicals: Jay Chou’s The Secret, Jonathan Lee’s The Spirit of Life and Huang Bo’s The Island.Â
